Drinking not only ruins one's good manners but also causes harmful effects on society.

+ It shuts the portals of the skies for the alcoholic for forty days and none of his deeds and Du'as reaches there.
+ It places the life and faith of the alcoholic at risk. There remains
the possibility of him being deprived of faith at the lime of death.(Bahr-ud-Dumu. 214)+ The human body is immune to the detrimental effects of alcohol in the beginning and the alcoholic enjoys it, but after some time the immunity system of the body is irreparably damaged, causing the harmful effects of alcohol appear permanently. For example, alcohol harms the liver the most, causing it to shrink Kidneys are also badly affected and eventually stop functioning. Further, heavy drinking also causes the swelling of the brain and nerves. As a result,the nerves weaken and lose functioning. Alcohol drinking also causes swelling of the stomach and weakens bones.Alcohol spoils the stored vitamins of the body. Vitamin B and C particularly become its victims. If tobacco is smoked along with drinking, its harms increase and there is a high risk of high blood pressure, stroke and a heart attack. An alcoholic constantly suffers from tiredness, headaches, nausea and extreme thirst. Sometimes, excessive drinking causes the heart and breathing to cease and the alcoholic meets sudden death.
+ Punishment for an alcoholic in the world:
Drinking alcohol makes punishment of 80 lashes Wajib (due) upon the alcoholic. Even if he escapes this punishment
in the world, he will be lashed in front of all people on the Day of Judgment.
+ Alcoholic's punishment in the grave: His face turns away from the Qiblak (Kitetb-ul-Kabair Az-Zalzabi, pp. 96)
He is inflicted with two snakes that continue to claw his flesh and eat it.(Sharh-us-Sudar, pp. 172)4. Alcoholic's punishment in the Hereafter:The alcoholic will come on the Day of Judgment with his face blackened, tongue hanging out over his chest and saliva drooling out of his mouth.Everyone looking at him will hate him.
(Al-Kcimil Ar-Raqm 399, Al -Hakim Bin `Abdullafi, vol. 2, pp. 502) He will be hanged with a noose of fire. When thirsty, he will be made to drink, sometimes, smelly sweat and sometimes boiling hot water. There will be thorny trees for eating. Because of wearing the slippers of fire, his brain will boil until it will discharge through his nose and ear.
+ The alcoholic will be in neighbourhood of Fir'awn' and 'Haman'.
